Profile

Helen Jeffery

A native English speaker, I worked in education for 37 years as a Modern Linguist and Classicist and Senior Leader, ten of those years as a Headteacher in both the secondary and primary sectors. I have a keen eye for accuracy and layout of the written word and have spent a lifetime writing for myself and others in both my line of work and in my private life.

Recruiting staff to a large school gave me a good insight into the sort of mistakes that people make when applying for jobs, and my four years as Director of a Recruitment Agency confirmed my dismay that potentially excellent candidates never get to the interview stage because they’re not sure how to sell themselves or set out their applications in an eye-catching and professional way. I enjoy  re-drafting CVs and supporting statements so that applicants are invited to interview.

I have produced text for numerous press releases, webpages, magazines, advertisements, flyers and newsletters, and have written countless detailed and eye-catching reports for a range of audiences.

My particular flair is for letter-writing, especially letters of complaint, and I have made successful representation to just about every type of organisation – Home Office (help with completing visa applications is a special strength as well as appeal letters – my efforts even led to a change in immigration law (!), local and national government departments, House of Commons, NHS, Police, retail outlets and head offices, restaurants, hotels, banks, all the utility services – energy, communications and transport.

I’ve proofread and improved dozens of pieces of GCSE, ‘A’ level and undergraduate coursework in English Language, English Literature, French, Spanish, History, Geography, Business, Economics, not to mention helped hundreds of students write 6th form college and UCAS personal statements.

It’s what I like doing – making text look good and read well for maximum impact, with no spelling, punctuation or grammatical mistakes. However, I recognise that it’s time-consuming and not everyone’s forte. So, if you need something writing or correcting, I’ll do it for you!

My extensive knowledge of the invaluable use to which data in schools can be put in raising attainment, informing staff, reporting to Governors and supporting Ofsted inspections enables me and my expert data manager to provide bespoke data packages to meet each school’s individual requirements.

I am delighted we also have on our team a fully-qualified and experienced translator (English, Spanish and French). In addition to her translation expertise, she  has significant ghost-writing, proof-reading and editing experience across all three languages.
